DAVID AND KAREN DELAYED THEIR MEMORIAL CAMPOUT A WEEK SO I WAS ABLE TO JOIN THEM FOR AT LEAST ONE NIGHT. THEY LEFT TOWN THURSDAY. MY PLAN WAS TO MEET THEM SATURDAY MORNING. DAVE GAVE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO GET TO “LITTLE SMOKEY” , IF THEY WEREN’T THERE THEY WOULD BE AT CANYON CG ON BIG SMOKEY. FOR SOME REASON I HAD PICTURED “LITTLE SMOKEY” BEING NEAR THE DOLLAR HIDE ROAD INTERSECTION. AFTER A FEW TRIPS DOWN TO THE BIG SMOKEY GUARD STATION AND UP & DOWN DOLLAR HIDE ROAD I FINALLY FOUND THEM JUST BEFORE NOON.
VIEW FROM CROUCH SUMMIT .
CAMPSITE JUST BELOW THE WELLS SUMMIT ROAD JUNCTION.
LOOP ~ 40 MILES
AFTER A QUICK LUNCH, DAVID AND I HEADED UP TO SEE IF WE COULD GET TO BIG PEAK TRAIL.
THE CARRIE CREEK TO BIG PEAK TRAIL WAS SWEET BUT SHORT.
BOTH BIG PEAK AND LICK CREEK WERE BLOCKED BY SNOW BANKS.
WE HEADED BACK DOWN THE ROAD AND EXPLORED A COUPLE OF MINING ROADS / SITES.
THIS TRAIL WAS VOTED BEST OF THE WEEKEND.
SAW LOTS OF BEAR TURDS & PRINTS
SUNDAY WE HEADED OVER TO EXPLORE PARADISE , BIG SMOKEY AND LICK CREEK.
LOOP ~ 47 MILES/ AVG SPEED ~ 22 MPH/ MAX SPEED- 65 MPH. YEAH WE RODE A BIT OF ROAD !
PARADISE NEEDS A BIT OF TREAD WORK AND 4 TREES CUT.
(SORRY FOR THE SPELLING ERROR)
AT THE INTERSECTION OF PARADISE AND THE ROAD, I ASKED DAVID WHAT WAS ACROSS THE BRIDGE. HE SAID IT EVENTUALLY LEAD TO A TRAIL. WE DECIDED TO GO FOR IT. IT WAS A GREAT DECISION ! TURNED OUT THE TRAIL WAS CALF CREEK WHICH DROPPED US AT THE START OF BIG SMOKEY.
WE DECIDED TO RIDE UP THE HIGH TRAIL AND HAVE LUNCH.
LUNCH JUST AFTER RIDING THE HIGH TRAIL. AFTER LUNCH WE BACKED TRACKED AND HEADED OVER TO LICK CREEK.
SURE LOOKED LIKE WE WERE THE 1ST BIKES OF LICK CREEK THIS SEASON.
DAVE FOUND A NEW PIECE OF RIDING GEAR !
GREAT WEEKEND !
