MONDAY
BIG CASINO AND LITTLE CASINO LOOP
HAD TO TRAILER THE BIKES TO THE BOUNDARY CREEK TRAIL HEAD.
WANTED TO RIDE WILLIAMS CREEK TO THE CASINO LOOP, BUT WE WOULD EITHER HAVE TO DROP A SHUTTLE OFF AT BOUNDARY OR RIDE THE BIKES ON HIGHWAY FROM BOUNDARY TO WILLIAMS CREEK.
DECIDED TO RIDE THE CASINO LOOP AT RIDE “IN & OUT” WILLIAMS CREEK ON THE WAY BACK IF WE HAD TIME.
RIDERS – DAVID,JON,SCOTT, JOHN
LOOP ~ 30 MILES / 5 HRS ! WE SKIPPED WILLIAMS CREEK.
THE LOOP WASN’T THAT HARD JUST SLOW. BIG CASINO HAD LOTS OF ROCKS THAT KEPT YOU IN 1ST MOST THE TIME. THEN ON THE BOTTOM THERE WERE SEVERAL DOWN TREES TO NEGOTIATE .
LITTLE CASINO WAS FAST EXCEPT FOR A RUT THAT TOOK A BIT TO GET EVERYBODY THROUGH. WE LOST THE TRAIL AND TOOK SOME MORE TIME TO FIND.
WE PARKED ACROSS THE HIGHWAY FROM THE FISH HATCHERY.
ME SIGNING IN AT BOUNDARY CREEK TRAIL HEAD.
BIG CASINO LAKE
LUNCH STOP AT CASINO CREEKS TRAIL HEAD.
LITTLE CASINO IS A SWEET SWEET TRAIL.

WEDNESDAY
REST DAY , DECIDED TO DO A SHORT DUAL SPORT RIDE AND EXPLORE SOME OF THE SIDE ROADS AROUND GALENA SUMMIT.
RIDERS – SCOTT , JOHN
LOOP - 52 MILES
WE FIRST TRIED FOLLOWING A DIRT ROAD OVER GALENA SUMMIT. MAPS SHOULD IT WORKING IT’S WAY BACK TO GALENA LODGE. HOWEVER IT PETERED OUT AT A SNOTEL STATION NEAR THE SUMMIT .
WE THEN FOLLOWED HWY75 BACK TOWARD SUN VALLEY WITH THE IDEA OF EXPLORING SOME SIDE CANYONS.
MOST THE ROADS WE PICKED EITHER PETERED OUT FAIRLY QUICKLY OR WERE NON-MOTORIZED TRAIL HEADS. THOUGHT ABOUT BAKER LAKE , BUT DECIDED IT WAS FARTHER THAN WE WANTED TO GO.
FINALLY FOUND A ROAD THAT LEAD US PAST THE OLD GALENA CEMETERY AND HOOKED UP WITH THE SKI TRAILS AROUND GALENA LODGE. ONE OF THEM TURNED INTO A NICE LITTLE SINGLE TRACK. FUN RIDE ON THE 640 , ALTHOUGH AS IT GOT TIGHTER I HAD TO HAVE SCOTT SCOUT THE TRAIL AND PICK THE LINES FOR ME A COUPLE OF TIMES.
AFTER THE TRAIL HOOKED UP WITH HWY75 WE BUZZED BACK UP THE PAVEMENT TO SMILEY CREEK LODGE.
GOT A LATE LUNCH , BLACK & BLUE BURGER.
WHILE WE WERE WAITING WE SAW THIS MOTORHOME PULL UP ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. IT HAD TWO BIKES ON THE BACK BUMPER AND ONE ON THE FRONT.
BOB CAME IN THE LODGE AND SPOKE A BIT. TOLD US HE HAD A KTM 400 & 690 ON THE BACK AND BMW GS ON THE FRONT. JUST SPENT A WEEK AT BAUMGARTNER. ASKED IF HE COULD RIDE WITH US ON THURSDAY. WE SAID SURE.
LATER THAT EVENING HE RODE INTO CAMP. TOLD HIM OUR PLANS , BUT BOB WAS A NO SHOW ON THURSDAY.

THURSDAY – FROG LAKE LOOP
~12AM I WAS DREAMING THAT I WAS SKINNING AN ALLIGATOR, SOON I REALIZED THERE WAS DIESEL OUTSIDE. GERALD , RANDY AND BRENT WERE TRYING TO FIND A FLAT SPOT TO PARK. THEY SAID THEY LEFT BOISE AROUND 8PM.
GERALD SAID HIS BROTHER AND WADE WERE DRIVING IN FROM SACRAMENTO AND SHOULD BE IN SOMETIME IN THE MORNING.
IN THE MORNING RANDY MOVED HIS TRAILER TO A BETTER SPOT. ~ 10AM SCOTT AND WADE ROLLED IN. SAID THEY LEFT SACRAMENTO AROUND 9PM AND DROVE STRAIGHT THROUGH.
WE FINALLY GOT UNDERWAY AROUND 11:30 PM.
RIDERS – SCOTT M – TRAIL BOSS, GERALD , BRENT , RANDY – SEARCH & RESCUE , SCOTT E , WADE , JOHN- SWEEP
LOOP – 75 MILES . RANDY PUT IN 90 MILES.
ABOUT 12 MILES INTO THE RIDE , 7 MILES DOWN FROM THE TRAIL HEAD ON GERMANIA I GOT FLAT.
THE GROUP WAS AROUND THE CORNER WAITING FOR ME. RANDY RODE BACK TO FIND ME. I WAS PULLING THE TUBE OUT WHEN HE RODE UP. HE HELPED ME FIND THE HOLE , WHICH WAS IN-BETWEEN SOME RIBS, WE TRIED PATCHING.
WHILE PULLING OUT THE TUBE I REALIZED MY GATOR DREAM WAS A PREMONITION OF THE FLAT TIRE .
WHILE WE WERE WAITING FOR THE PATCH TO DRY RANDY RODE BACK TO SEE IF ANYONE HAD A PUMP & 18 INCH TUBE.
WHEN HE GOT BACK WE TRIED THE PATCHED TUBE , BUT IT DIDN’T HOLD SO WE HAD PULL THE TUBE AND USE THE 21” SPARE TUBE. BETWEEN THE 21” TUBE AND NOT SEATING THE REAR WHEEL WAS WOBBLY.
THE REST OF GROUP RODE DOWN TO CORK SCREW FALLS WHILE RANDY & I FIXED THE FLAT. TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR FOR ME TO GET ON THE TRAIL.
THE WATER CROSSINGS WERE WAS LOW , STILL PROVIDED SOME ENTERTAINMENT BUT NO ONE DROWNED A BIKE.
WHILE WAITING FOR EVERYONE TO GO THROUGH THE MUD HOLE I NOTICED THE TRAIL AROUND IT
SHALE TRAIL LOWER END OF GERMANIA JUST BEFORE STEP UP.
THE RIDE INTO LIVINGSTON MINE.
THIS FELLOW WAS PACKING HIS CAMP IN ON A TRAIL 90 BY HIMSELF !
SCOTT M OVER LOOKING FROG LAKE.
CASTLE PEAK
ANOTHER VIEW OF FROG LAKE.
REST STOP AT FROG LAKE
ME CROSSING EAST FORK OF SALMON ON GRAND PRIZE. SUN WAS IN MY EYES AND HAD A HELLIOUS GLARE OFF THE WATER. COULDN’T MAKE OUT WHERE THE ROCKS WERE.
JUST AS I WAS CLIMBING INTO THE TREES FROM THE SAGE BRUSH FLOOR , GERALD & BRENT WERE STANDING BY THE TRAIL. BRENT HELD UP HIS CHAIN AND SAID “ I FOUND A SNAKE”. WE COMPARED OUR TOOL POUCHES. DECIDED MY PLIERS AND PARTIAL MASTER LINK WERE THE BEST WE HAD. RANDY TOOK OFF 1ST TO GET A MASTER LINK , CHAIN BREAKER AND JON’S CHAIN OFF HIS KDX. I LEFT A BIT LATER WITH GERALD AND BRENT BEATING ON THE CHAIN PIN WITH PLIERS AND A ROCK.
ON THE WAY BACK TO CAMP I FOUND WADE SLEEPING ALONG RAINBOW TRAIL. HE WAS FINISHING UP A LONG DAY.
AFTER RANDY GATHERED THE PARTS AND TOOLS HE RODE MY BIKE BACK SINCE IT HAD A LIGHT.
RANDY, GERALD AND BRENT ROLLED INTO CAMP AROUND 9 pm. RANDY CLOCKED 90+ MILES THAT DAY.
BRENT SAID THEY TRIED A COUPLE OF FIXES BEFORE RANDY ARRIVED . ONLY MADE A FEW FEET EACH TIME.
=============================================================================
FRIDAY – ROSS FORK LOOP
CHEMEKETAN / BIG SMOKY / WEST FORK BIG SMOKY / SNOW SLIDE / PARADISE / FS ROAD / ROSS FORK JEEP TRAIL/ NORTH FORK ROSS FORK / ALTURAS / FS ROAD / POWER LINE TWO TRACK
RIDERS – SCOTT M, JUSTIN , RANDY , GERALD , BRENT , WADE , SCOTT E, JOHN
LOOP – 70 MILES
SNOW SLIDE – LOOKING FOR WADE’S BARK BUSTER CLAMP
SCOTT EVANS CLIMBING SNOW SLIDE.
TOP OF SNOW SLIDE
LUNCH BREAK ON JOHNSON CREEK- WADE AND SCOTT BUZZED PAST ME ON THE JEEP ROAD AFTER A FEW MINUTES THEY FIGURED OUT WE HAD STOPPED.
THE NORTH FORK OF ROSS FORK SIDE HILLS ALONG A STEEP CANYON ABOVE THE CREEK. THE TRAIL TREAD IS IN GOOD SHAPE AND EASY ( HIGH CONSEQUENCES IF YOU GO OFF THE TRAIL ) UNTIL WE GOT TO THIS SWITCH BACK.
IT’S A REROUTE WHERE THE SIDE HILL WASHED OUT. IT LOOKS STEEP , BUT THE REAL PROBLEM IS IT’S LOOSE AND TIGHT. YOU NEED TO RE POINT YOUR BIKE AT EACH SWITCH BACK.
RANDY AND ME RIDING THRU THE SWITCH BACK.
AFTER THE SWITCH BACK THE TRAIL TURNED INTO THE TYPICAL ROCKY SINGLE TRACK.
THERE WAS ONE ROOT THAT GAVE MOST OF US FITS. IT CAN BE FIXED BY STACKING UP MORE ROCKS AROUND IT.
THE TRAIL SMOOTHED OUT AGAIN ON A STEEP SIDE HILL.
ROSS FORK – ALTURAS DIVIDE
ALTURAS IS A NICE SINGLE TRACK THAT TAKES YOU DOWN TO THE LAKE WHERE YOU THEN TAKE THE ROAD TO HWY75.
WE FOLLOWED THE POWER LINE TWO TRACK BACK TO SMILEY CREEK.
WE STOPPED AT SMILEY CREEK FOR BURGERS AND COKES .
