FRIDAY NIGHT I COULD HARDLY SLEEP. I WOULD WAKE UP EVERY COUPLE OF HOURS THEN I WASN’T SURE I WAS GOING BACK TO SLEEP. I FINALLY GOT UP AT 5AM.
LEFT THE HOUSE AT 6:30 AM TO PICK UP GORDON. I STOPPED AT THE STORE TO GET COUPLE OF THINGS. WE GOT GORDON LOADED UP AND IT WAS OBVIOUS WE WOULD HAVE TIME TO KILL SO WE STOPPED AT THE ALBERTSON ON BROADWAY. MUST OF GOT TO THE BLACKS CREEK REST STOP BY 7:30. TIM AND SCOTT WERE RUNNING LATE SO WE WENT INTO THE REST STOP. WHEN WE CAME OUT THERE WAS AN ALARM GOING OFF INSIDE THE CAMPER. OPENED THE DOOR AND COULD SMELL PROPANE ! I BUMPED A STOVE KNOB WHEN LOADING GORDON'S STUFF. OPENED THE WINDOWS, TURNED ON THE EXHAUST FAN AND TURNED OFF THE PROPANE BOTTLES !
COULD HAVE BEEN A SHORT BUT EXCITING TRIP !
TIM AND SCOTT SHOWED UP AND WE GOT ON THE ROAD SOMETIME AFTER 8 AM.
STEVE AND BEN WERE LEAVING LATER IN THE DAY. GORDON WAS IN CONTACT WITH STEVE WHEN WE LEFT GREEN RIVER. STEVE GAVE US DIRECTIONS TO LONE MESA CAMPGROUND. BETWEEN THE DIRECTIONS & GOGGLE MAP ON THE SMART PHONE WE FOUND THE CAMPGROUND.
BEN & STEVE ROLLED IN 2-3 HOURS AFTER US.

RIDERS – BEN, SCOTT, JOHN, GORDON, TIM
GOOD DAY.
IT WAS IN THE 40’S WHEN WE LEFT. STARTED OUT IN A GORTEX JERSEY . AS IT WARMED UP WE HAD TO SHED LAYERS. ON POISON SPIDER IT LOOKED LIKE WE WOULD GET HIT BY RAIN SHOWERS, WE STOPPED AND PUT OUR RAIN GEAR ON. A SHORT TIME LATER THE SUN CAME BACK OUT AND WE HAD TO PEEL LAYERS AGAIN. LATER ON THE WAY BACK WE HAD SNOW SHOWERS ON JACKS ARCH ROAD.
JACKS ARCH ROAD ON THE WAY ……….. GORDON POINTING OUT THE MONITOR AND MERRIMACK.
GOLD BAR RIM TRAIL. STOPPED TO DOUBLE CHECK TIRE PRESSURES. I NOTICED MY CHAIN WAS LOOSE. A CLOSER LOOK SHOWED THE AXEL WAS LOOSE. I HAD THE AXLE IN BACKWARDS AND SPUN THE AXLE LOOSE. THE GUYS HELD THE BIKE AND WE SWAPPED THE AXLE DIRECTION.
AS WE WERE WORKING ON THE BIKE A RICH YAMAHA BURPED BY. LONG HAIR BUT COULDN’T TELL IF IT WAS A GUY OR GIRL.
LATER WHEN WE WERE TRYING TO RIDE UP RUSTY NAIL HE SHOWED UP AGAIN. STEVE REMEMBERED WE SHOULD BE RIDING IN THE OPPOSITES DIRECTION AFTER WE GOT TO A DIFFICULT LEDGE. SO WE HEADED BACK DOWN TO GOLD BAR. TIM TOOK A SPILL JUMPING OFF A LEDGE AND BROKE A HAND GUARD. WE STOPPED SO HE COULD MAKE REPAIRS & REMOVE THE GUARD.
WE HAD OUR HELMETS OFF WHEN JOE DIRT SAID “BOY YALL ARE REALLY OLD. OLD AS MY DAD AND HE’S IN A COMA ON THE COUCH. YOU RIDE REALLY GNARLY STUFF. YOU CARRY A LOT OF TOOLS ….”
LUNCH STOP ON GOLD BAR RIM.

THE OTHERS WANTED TO RIDE “OVER THE EDGE”. I DIDN’T WANT TO RIDE OVER THE EDGE SO I HEADED BACK ON MY OWN. I RODE THE SAND WASH BACK TO HWY 313, THEN RODE THE ATV TRAIL TO THE TRUCKS. IT WAS A FUN SMOOTH WASH.
I WISH I WENT TO BARTLET . THEY SAID THEY FOUND A BETTER WAY DOWN TO THE LEDGE.
WE LOADED UP AND DROVETO TEMPLE MOUNTAIN IN THE SWELL.
===================================================================
WE GOT TO THE TEMPLE MOUNTAIN CAMPGROUND AROUND 4PM.
IT’S A NICE DRIVE, PAVED ROAD UNTIL THE LAST FEW HUNDRED YARDS.
THE CAMPGROUND IS THE SITE OF AN URANIUM MINE , BACK WHEN IT WAS GOOD TO BE A CAPITALIST AND EXPLOIT RESOURCES .

LEDGE ON WATER FALL TRAIL
SPODE DADDY NEED A LITTLE HELP UP THE LEDGE ……… HE DON’T CARE HE STILL LOOKS GOOD.
THIS MIGHT BE BAPTIST DRAW, NOT SURE
NOT SURE ABOUT THE STORY ON THIS, BUT IT MADE ME WORRY THAT THE TRAIL WOULD BE GNARLY SO I WAS EVEN SLOWER THAN NORMAL LOOKING OUT FOR THE BAD SPOT- THERE WASN’T ONE.
END OF TRAIL WITH TEMPLE MT IN THE BACKGROUND.
GORDON AND BRAIN ON THE WAY BACK TO CAMP.
TUESDAY
CAMP SITE TUESDAY MORNING. WYMAN HAD SOME BOLTS THAT WORKED FOR TIM’S HAND GUARDS. TIM EXTRACTED THE BROKEN BOLT THEN MOUNTED HIS HAND GUARDS.
I TOOK THE TIME TO DOWN ANOTHER BOTTLE OF WATER. NOT SURE HOW MANY I DRANK, PROBABLY AT LEAST TWO.
LOOP – I RODE 92 MILES . THE OTHERS GOT A FEW MORE
TRAIL BOSS – STEVE
RIDERS – SCOTT,JOHN, DON, DAVE, JEFF, BRIAN, KIRBY, TAP , GORDON, BEN, BUTCH , TIM
DAVE & DON VOLUNTEERED TO DRIVE A TRUCK WITH GAS & WATER TO THE ~25 MILE POINT- TRAIL HEAD INTO 5MOH.
RIGHT OUT OF CAMP ON A MINING ROAD I WASHED THE FRONT WHEEL OUT , THEN MISSED A TURN !
TEMPLE MNT TRAIL SYSTEM.
A COUPLE OF MILES BACK FROM THIS INTERSECTION BUTCH FLATTED HIS REAR TIRE ( RIDING TOO FAST ).
AFTER A BIT, ABOUT HALF THE GROUP TOOK OFF AND THE REST OF US WAITED FOR BUTCH , TIM & SCOTT.
THIS IS THE START OF THE “RED TRAIL” ON 5 MILES OF HELL (5MOH) .
CEMENT HILL. NOT AS CHALLENGING AS THE SAND WASH LEADING UP TO IT.
ANOTHER SLICK ROCK CLIMB. KIND OF CONFUSING WHICH WAS THE BEST LINE. SAW ONE ON THE RIGHT .BUT I DIDN’T THINK I HAD ENOUGH SPEED.
NOT TOO SURPRISING I WOULD LOOSE THE TRIAL ON THE SLICK ROCK.
AGAIN THE SAND SECTIONS WERE MORE CHALLENGING THAN THE ROCK.
WOULD BE A FUN TRIAL TO DO AGAIN.
BRIAN AT THE START OF 5MOH ( THE REAL DEAL).
********
WE REGROUPED AT THE TRUCK. I HAD MY TRAIL BEER , SANDWICH , CARROTS,THEN 2 BOTTLES OF WATER. ADDED SOME WATER TO MY CAMELBACK.
THE NIGHT BEFORE I HAD A LEG CRAMP & MY MOUTH / THROAT WOULD DRY OUT WHILE I SLEPT. LATER I CHECKED THE RECORDS AT NEARBY WEATHER STATION. THE DEW POINT WAS RUNNING 12-15’F ! BONE DRY.
WE WERE ABOUT TO TAKE OFF WHEN TIM NOTICED KIRBY’S REAR AXLE WAS LOOSE ! SO I HAD SOME EXTRA REST TIME.
WE TOOK SOME RANCH ROADS TOWARD THE EAGLE CANYON TRAIL HEAD.
ON THE WAY I HAD TO STOP FOR AN EMERGENCY TRAIL SIDE BODY FUNCTION ! DAMNEDEST TURD. HADN’T SEEN ONE LIKE IT SINCE JAPAN. LOOKED LIKE A KAWASUKI !
THEN AFTER THIS EVERY 20-30 MINUTES I HAD TO PISS !
THIS KEPT UP ALL THE WAY TO THE DEVILS RACE TRACK TRAIL HEAD. MADE ME REAL SLOW.
EAGLE CANYON

MOST THE GROUP TOOK AN ATV TRAIL BACK TO CAMP.
I WAS STARTING TO GET FATIGUED ( TARGET FIXATION , BLOWING TURNS , ETC) SO I TOOK THE ROAD BACK.
HAD SOME GREAT VIEWS ALONG THE WAY.
LATER THAT NIGHT KIRBY’S AND TAPP’S BIRTHDAYS WERE CELEBRATED .
THEN STEVE GAVE US A FIRESIDE CHAT ABOUT THE HONEY BADGER .
====================================================================
WEDNESDAY
I DROVE BACK HOME. GOT OUT OF CAMP AROUND 9:30. DROVE INTO GREEN RIVER TO DUMP MY TANKS.
BOUGHT FUEL AT THE SINCLAIR/ PILOT.
ASKED THE CLERK IF THEY HAD AN RV DUMP. SHE SAID “WHAT'S THAT ?”. SO I DECIDED TO CHECK OUT PRICE.
I TOOK THE BUSINESS LOOP THROUGH PRICE. NICE TOWN. PROUD OF THEIR COAL INDUSTRY.
THERE IS A ROCKY MOUNTAIN ATV/MC OUTLET IN HEPLER .
http://www.rockymountainatvmcdealership.com/index.htm
THE DRIVE FROM SPANISH FORKS TO OGDEN WAS INTERESTING. NO ONE HOLDS THEIR LINE.
EVEN SEMI’S WOULD CHANGE LANES W/O SIGNALS. I GUESS THEY ARE ALL IN HURRY.
JUST DON’T KNOW IF THEY ARE IN A HURRY TO GET TO THE TEMPLE OR TO GET AWAY FROM THE TEMPLE.
