LOOP ~ 225 MILES
RIDERS –JOHN , BYRON
WANTED TO RIDE INTO GRAHAM. THE FS REBUILT THE ROAD THIS SUMMER AND LAST WEEK THE FIRE CLOSURE WAS LIFTED.
IT WAS WARM SUNDAY MORNING, ~ 75 ‘ F , BUT IT WAS MUCH COOLER IN IDAHO CITY. THE THERMOMETER AT TOM’S SAID 50’ AND WE HAD A FEW THOUSAND FEET TO CLIMB STILL. WHILE GASSING UP WE SAW LIGHTENING STRIKES JUST ABOVE IDAHO CITY.
DARK CLOUDS WERE GATHERING ON THE WAY IN , BUT SO FAR SO GOOD.
ANOTHER ROUTE CHECK BEFORE WE DROP INTO GRAHAM WHICH IS ANOTHER 6-7 MILES AND A 2,500 FT DESCENT . WE GOT A MILE OR SO DOWN THE CANYON AND IT LOOKED LIKE THERE WAS A CLOUD BURST AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CANYON. DECIDED TO CALL IT, NOT WANTING TO GET SOAKED OR GET IN A BUNCH OF MUCK.
DECIDED TO GO TO THE JACKSON PEAK LO AND BANNER MINE INSTEAD.
I WAS SURPRISED THAT IT WAS STILL MANNED. THE GAL SAID IT WAS HER DAY OFF , BUT SHE HAD TO RUSH UP WITH THE STORMS. SHE CALLED IN AIR SUPPORT ON A COUPLE OF THE LIGHTENING STRIKES.
BYRON GOT TREATED TO A TRAIL BEER !
