Riders – Dave , Scott , John
Loop – 50 miles
Second ride on the 300. Saturday I did a short 30 mile ride by Murphy
with Gary then changed the oil when I got hone. I used 1.5 gallons , ~ 21 mpg.
rich but ok for the break-in rides, I figured I would be safe at a 50 mile loop.
While I was picking up Scott , I got a text from Dave asking if we were riding
out of “Dead Cow “. I let him know we were but first eating breakfast at the
Y-BAR.
Small shrine just above the Grand View feedlot. It’s been up a couple of
years . At one time it had a small plastic 4-wheeler.
SIMPLOT FEEDLOT
Jack was an early investor in Micron ,larger than life character , American hero !
Jack made a billion dollars off his Micron investment but I think he loved
his AG business more .
Scott and I got to Dead Cow ~ 11AM and it had warmed up to 37F.
Scott’s bike died while idling and he thought he must have fouled a plug.
He changed the plug but it still wouldn’t start !
Dave rode to the other side of the bike and saw the gas was turned off.
Dave had me lead but after 6-7 miles I missed a turn and “lost” the single track.
Scott & Dave took over and we picked up the single track again.
Just past the Oreana Cutoff .
Side hilling around the Water Fall .
Mouth of the Castle Creek Canyon.
We looped above Doyle Cabin and made our way to Vinson Wash.
The wind was whipping over Doyle Mountain so hard I didn’t want to stand up
and it was cold .
About halfway down the wash @42 miles I hit reserve !
We found the first trail that took us to Missile Base Road and took the
road back to Dead Cow . I was running on fumes !
As we loaded up the storm front was rolling over the Owyhee's but it
stayed dry all the way home.
When got to Scott’s to unload , I saw I had a flat on the driver’s side
of the trailer . The tire was shot but I don’t think it happened on the
interstate , it would not have survived at all.
I might want to invest into TPS for the trailer as I can’t see it at all with the
camper loaded.
Scott got his floor jack and light . It took the two of use to break the lugs
with Scott standing on the tool.
So ok , new tire on the trailer and short 10 minute drive home !
Nope, ACHD started barricading the roads between Maple Grove and Cole in
preparation for the Lake Hazel intersection work.
I thought no problem I’ll work my way through the subdivision but as I almost
reached Cole there was a line of barrels blocking Cole. I had to back track to
Maple Grove , then to the airport to Pleasant Valley to get home.
Cole will remain closed until August !
On the plus side no more commuter traffic on Hollilynn for a few months.
