image

RIDERS : JOHN C, JON M, JOHN A

LOOP” 25 MILES ( ME & COTNER )

YELLOW TRACK = DIRT BIKE

BLUE TRACK = TRUCK ROUTE TO GET MORGAN

MORGAN = WHERE WE LEFT HIM

LOAD = WHERE WE PICKED HIM UP.

I WANTED TO CLOCK 54 MILES TO END THE YEAR WITH 2200 DIRT BIKE MILES.

MURPHY JUST HAD A SKIFF OF SNOW. THE GROUND WAS FROZEN BUT THE TRACTION WAS GREAT. TEMP WAS AROUND FREEZING.

RIGHT AFTER WE CROSSED THE CANAL BELOW SINKER CREEK RESERVOIR MORGAN'S YZ STOPPED RUNNING. NO SPARK. JON EVENTUALLY PULLED THE IGNITION  COVER AND DISCOVERED BITS OF COPPER WIRE- NOT GOOD ! COTNER HELPED PUT THE BIKE BACK TOGETHER AND WE GOT JON DOWN TO THE JOYCE RANCH ROAD IN THE CANYON RIGHT BEHIND US.

COTNER & I DOUBLED BACK TO THE TRUCK. ABOUT 2 MILES FROM THE TRUCK MY BIKE STARTED LOOSING SPEED, FELT LIKE DEEP SAND. THEN MY CLUTCH STARTED SQUEALING AND THE BIKE “SEIZED”. THE REAR WHEEL WAS LOCKED UP. I FOUND A PIECE OF SAGE BRUSH WEDGED BETWEEN THE CASE & BRAKE PEDAL. COTNER PACKED SNOW ON THE CALIBER AND RESERVOIR TO COOL OFF THE FLUID. WE WERE ON OUR WAY IN A COUPLE OF MINUTES.

MR T- “ I PITY THE FOOL THAT RIDES A YZ !”

WHEN WE GOT BACK TO MY TRUCK THE SNOW WAS STARTING TO ROLL IN.

I DROPPED BY MOTORSPORT TO HAVE BOB LOOK AT THE ROTOR AND PICK UP A NEW BATTERY. WHEN I GOT HOME THERE WAS A COUPLE OF INCHES OF WET SNOW ON THE SLUSH. I GOT STUCK WHEN TURNING INTO MY DRIVE WAY. THE TRUCK WAS IN THE DRIVE AND THE TRAILER WAS ON THE ROAD. I GOT THE 4-WHEELER, SHOVEL , SALT AND BOYS. I PLOWED THE DRIVE AND HAD THE BOYS SHOVEL & SPREAD SALT AROUND THE WHEELS.                                                                                                                                                 I WAS THEN ABLE TO PULL THU THE GATE, BUT THE TRUCK THEN SPUN OUT AND STARTED TO SLIDE BACKWARDS DOWN THE DRIVE. WE DUG OUT AGAIN AND GOT STRAIGHTENED OUT BUT STILL COULDN'T GET UP THE DRIVE. I’LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW AFTERNOON TO TRY AGAIN.

I NEED TO LOOK INTO “SNOW TIRES” FOR THE F450 ( MR T ALSO PITY'S THE FOOL IN THE F450). SINCE I HAVE 19.5” RIMS, I’LL PROBABLY HAVE TO BUY WHEELS & TIRES TO FIND SOMETHING I CAN STUD.

BOISE WAS BRIGHT , SUNNY AND WARM AS I PICKED UP DAVE AND MURRAY. AS WE MADE OUR WAY WEST THE FOG GOT THICKER AND THE SNOW WAS DEEPER. WHEN WE DROPPED INTO THE SNAKE THE SNOW DISAPPEARED BUT FOG SEEMED TO GET WORSE. VISIBILITY WAS LESS THAN A HUNDRED YARDS .

FINALLY MADE IT TO THE SAND WASH BEHIND MURPHY AND THE FOG LOOKED LIKE IT WOULD LIFT.

DIRT WAS GOOD DOWN LOW. UP ABOVE DIAMOND BASIN WAS GETTING GOOPY.

LOOP- 40 MILES

When I went to start the bike the carb overflowed when I turned the gas on. I tapped it a couple of times but it wouldn’t quit. I rode it up and down the road and it stopped ?

Need to pull off the carb and check the float.
