MET AT THE “DEAD COW WASH “ JUST WEST OF GRAND VIEW. I GOT THERE ~ 10:30 ( EARLY, SHORTER DRIVE THAN I THOUGHT). THE LAST OF THE GROUPS DIDN’T SHOW UP UNTIL 12-12:30.
A COUPLE OF THE GUY’S WERE BIGGER THAN ME & ONE WAS MY AGE. HAD SHORT BRIEF THOUGHT THAT MAYBE I COULD KEEP UP TODAY. I DIDN’T PUT A PASS ON TED UNTIL THE END OF THE DAY.
HAD A SHORT ICY CLIMB OUT OF BIRCH CREEK TOOK ME TWO TRY'S.
SOME OF THE SNOW RIDING
RIDE TO THE MISSILE BUNKER
DAVE AND GREG AT MISSILE BUNKER
TED DOES THE HILL CLIMB. I TOOK A PASS.
LOOP- 36 MILES
1ST RIDE IN A YEAR WITH A KNOBBY (IN DIRT),LOVED IT IN THE DESERT !
GATE ABOVE THE SLOT (DAVID WAS RIDING DOUBLE ).
DECIDED THE OWYHEE GUMBO WAS TOO BAD TO RIDE THE SLOT INTO SINKER.
WE RODE THE ROAD DOWN TO SINKER. AT THE 1ST CREEK CROSSING WE DECIDED IT WAS RUNNING TOO HIGH TO PROCEED . TRIED THE BACK WAY AND RUN INTO MORE SLOP. HAD TO BACK TRACK OUT AND STICK TO THE SAND WASHES,
FRIDAY DAVE POSTED THEY WERE MEETING A THE Y-STOP IN GRAND VIEW AT 9AM SATURDAY. I CHECKED THE FORECASTS. SUNDAY LOOKED BETTER-SUNSHINE , BUT SATURDAY SHOULD BE OK ~35’ WITH BRIEF SHOWER IN THE MORNING. I PLOWED A WIDER PATH ON THE DRIVEWAY, DUG OUT THE TRUCK, GOT THE TRAILER HOOKED UP & BIKE LOADED.
SATURDAY MORNING THERE WAS A DUSTING OF SNOW AT THE HOUSE WHEN I HEADED OUT. I84 WAS WET, SIMCO HAD A LIGHT SNOW FLOOR. THERE WAS A STEADY SNOW FALL WHEN I MET DAVE, BUTCH & TOM AT THE Y-STOP. DAVE JUST HAD A CALL FROM JEFF THAT HE HAD TO GO TO HIS DAUGHTER’S BASKETBALL GAME AND WOULD BE OUT LATER IN THE DAY. IT MUST HAVE SNOWED 1/2-1 “ WHILE WE HAD BREAKFAST.
DEAD COW WASH
LOOP ~ 17 MILES
RIDERS- DAVE, TOM, BUTCH, JOHN
DAVE, BUTCH & TOM WERE STUDDED UP AND “A” RIDERS . SLIM CHANCE I WOULD KEEP THEM IN SIGHT.
MY CLIP OF THE 1ST FEW MINUTES OF RIDE. THE WET SNOW STUCK TO THE LENS AND GOGGLES. NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE WAS MORE OF A PROBLEM THAN NOT HAVING STUDDED TIRES.
TOM’S VIDEOS :
TOM NEEDED TO LEAVE BY 1PM SO WE LOOPED BACK TO THE TRUCKS.
WHILE WE WERE WAITING DAVE TALKED TO HIS WIFE WHO SAID IT WAS SNOWING HARD IN MOUNTAIN HOME. I CHECKED WITH MARILYN WHO SAID IT SNOWED IN BOISE AND THERE WAS STILL SNOW IN THE DRIVE. IT WAS AFTER 2PM WHEN JEFF PULLED IN. I DECIDED I DIDN’T WANT TO GET HOME AFTER DARK AND MAYBE HAVE TO PLOW THE DRIVE TO GET THE TRUCK UP. SO I LOADED UP AND HEADED HOME.
JEFF SAID ABOUT 20 MINUTES AFTER I LEFT THEIR RIDING PARTNER WENT DOWN IN A DITCH. THEY SPENT THE NEXT 3 HOURS GETTING HIM LOADED IN AN AMBULANCE. AT THE HOSPITAL HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A CRACKED FEMUR HEAD.
