MAP

TOPO

RIDERS – DAVID , JOHN

LOOP ~ 45 MILES

WE PARKED AT THE MURPHY WASH AND MADE OUR WAY TO SINKER CREEK. THE BOTTOM OF THE WASHES HAD A SPOTS OF SLOPPY MUD, BUT WHEN WE GOT TO THE GATE BY THE SLOT IT WAS DRY.

SLOT

RIDING THE SLOT INTO SINKER CREEK

THE CROSSING AT THE BOTTOM WASN’T THAT BAD SO WE TRIED OUR LOOP THRU THE CANYON.

EAST FORK SINKER CREEK

WE GOT TO THE MAIN FORK AND DECIDED IT WAS MORE WATER THAN WE WANTED TO TAKE ON. IT WOULD BE A COLD RIDE BACK WITH BOOTS FULL OF WATER.

DSCF2624 Stitch

WE DOUBLED BACK AND STOPPED FOR LUNCH AT THE BASE OF THE CLIFFS.

LUNCH : HAM & CHEESE SANDWICH, FRITOS, BEER

WIND WAS WHISTLING THRU CANYON, IT WAS COLD.

LOOKS LIKE GAS POCKETS IN THE LAVA FLOW. ( NO EPA BACK THEN).

THE SINGLE TRACK BACK INTO SINKER CREEK
BACK UP THE SLOT

WE DECIDED TO BACK TRACK UP THE SLOT TO AVOID A COUPLE OF WATER CROSSINGS.

LOTS OF DEER ON THE WAY OUT.

RIDING THE BRIDGE BACK HOME

WE ENDED UP DOUBLING BACK BECAUSE WE WANTED TO AVOID MUCK AND THE TRAIL IS BETTER.

TUESDAY MORNING WE AWOKE TO AN ICE FOG. FORECAST WAS FOR IT TO BURN OFF BY 11AM.

SCOTT CALLED AND SAID HE STILL NEEDED HIS OFF ROAD STICKER AND GAS, SO I HEADED OVER A BIT EARLY. WE STOPPED AT MOTOTECH THEN THE CHEVRON FOR FUEL.  AS WE HEADED DOWN I-84 WE HAD A BRIEF THOUGHT OF ALL THOSE FOLKS STILL AT MICRON.  WE LOST THE SUN AS WE PASSED THE STAGE STOP.

ON SIMCO IT GOT WORSE. THE FOG CLOSED IN AND THERE WERE STANDS OF WATER ALL THRU THE DESERT, BUT AS WE DROPPED INTO GRANDVIEW THE SUN CAME OUT.

ON THE WAY TO DEAD COW IT WAS OBVIOUS THE FIELDS WERE MUCH DRIER DOWN IN THE VALLEY. MISSILE BASE ROAD WAS DRY AND DUSTY.

SCOTT AND I DID A SHORT 30 MILE LOOP. I WAS SURPRISED BY THE SNOW & ICE. I DIDN’T HAVE MY ICE TIRES. NEXT TIME I’LL MOVE THE ICE TIRES TO THE 300.

IT WAS THE 1ST RIDE AFTER MY GET OFF.  I WAS MORE TIMID THAN NORMAL BECAUSE OF MY KNEE. IT WAS SORE BY THE END OF THE RIDE BUT FELT OK THE DAY AFTER.
